Unit 19:learning aim c

 Learning aim c research

I would like my film to be a drama that is set in a school, the story will follow a girl is described as being the most popular girl in school, however one day she wakes up and discovers that she is no longer liked by anyone, the story will follow her coming to terms with life after her status has been taken away from her.

Primary research

I had conducted a survey and discovered that the most common answer for age was between the ages of 15-18, therefore I knew that my film would have to appeal to an older teenager demographic, therefore I chose to base my film in a school setting as that is relatable.

I had also asked what genre people had most enjoyed, and the most common answer was action, however I chose for my film to be under the drama genre because they are closely related, and I think my film would be more effective through this genre.

The action genre would involve a conflict, the use of weapons, power struggles and a conflict between good and evil and the protagonist must be a hero, while I can incorporate some of these ideas into my film it may not fit in.

Popular films from this genre include-bullet train, the suicide squad and Jumanji

Americanized analysis

Narrative-this short follows a protagonist who fails to be excepted from both sides of her culture, we follow her as she tries to learn where she fits in, which is seemingly nowhere, in the beginning sequence our protagonist is seen getting ready for her basketball game in the morning, she then goes downstairs and realises her grandma has a mysterious black eye, her grandma dismisses it, and the story progresses as we follow her to her basketball game, while she enters the changing rooms, she feels ostracized, but she meets a girl who accepts her onto the team, however during the tournament our protagonist scores and so the kindness of the friend she made quickly fades away as she starts to feel more ostracised from her group this creates some form of conflict between the two of them, afterwards we can see her talking with her teammates, acting as if she gets black issues and this is an issue for the classmate and therefore this creates a further conflict, this narrative ends with them fighting and this is where the short film ends.

Secondary research

This article discusses how ‘climbing the social ladderdoesn’t necessarily get rid of the feeling of being alone per say, even so it may make it worst and so I want to incorporate that into my film by showing the vulnerability that comes with all of the popularity, to make sure that I look at all aspects.
