Unit 2 case study

This is an interview I had conducted with a freelanced editor, I had asked him a series of questions in regard to his job and what it entailed:

Question 1: Can you explain your journey into the film industry and describe your role?
Answer: I started as a kid, I really enjoyed watching movies and wanted to see the behind the scenes, right now I'm an editor, all I do is file through footage, make sure its coherent and I communicate with my boss to see what I need to change or correct.

From this first question I had gathered that freelanced work requires skills such as communication and organization in order to create an edit successfully.

Question 2: What technical responsibilities does that involve?
Answer: It involves making sure the audio is synced up, making sure the video is clear, creating transcripts, knowledge of different software like adobe systems as they are industry standard.

This question gave me insight into the importance of building knowledge on software and building skills in order to make the best edits that you can.

Question 3:Do you work for a public service, independent or commercial film company, or as you said because you've mentioned freelancing does it vary?
Answer: Yes it varies, I do stuff for youtubers, up and coming film creators, through word of mouth other opportunities may arise.

Through this I had learned that it is important to network and branch out in the film industry as people may call you back because they liked working with you or refer you to other people

Evaluation:

In summary I had learnt that editing in the film industry is something that requires effective communication skills or the ability to branch out and meet new clients and being able to advertise yourself is also incredibly important.
